Tax Guidelines

When making donations to Goodwill, many ask for guidelines to determine tax value. While Goodwill cannot place a value on your donations, the following guideline will help in determining fair market value. If you are a taxpayer who itemizes deductions on federal tax returns (uses the long form), you are entitled to claim a charitable deduction for all financial and material donations to Goodwill Industries. According to the Pension Protection Act of 2006, you may claim a deduction only for items that are in good condition. The U.S. Internal Revenue Service requires donors to value their items and says you may deduct the fair market value of each item. Donations may be taken to any store/donation center listed on the back of this newsletter. Home pickups of large items are available in Tallahassee, Panama City, Crestview and Okaloosa and Walton counties. Those phone numbers are also on the back of this newsletter. To help guide you in estimating fair value, following are price ranges. Prices are only estimated values, and assume that the items are in good condition.
